Profile of North Maluku Province

North Maluku is a province of Indonesia. The province was established by Act No. 46 of 1999 dated October 4, 1999. The province consists of several islands in the Maluku Islands.
North Maluku population numbered 855 627 (2003 census).
The provincial capital is Ternate. However there are plans to Sofifi transfer of capital. County and City

Tourism North Maluku Province tourism potential of North Maluku province and ancient form of cultural tourism, history, no tradition known as the Sultanate Moloku Kie Raha. Historical relics of the past, among others Kadaton Sultan of Ternate and Tidore Sultan Kadaton.

The potential of marine tourism in the form of islands and beautiful beaches with sea garden and ornamental fish species, is a major potential to develop marine tourism.

Natural attractions like rock hole that spread almost throughout the region, jungle tours which can be intended for the benefit of the national parks that have endemic species in the world ranking to 10.

With such potential, the development is directed to locations that have interaction tourist activities.

Natural spaces consisting of several types, both land and sea areas are scattered in various locations such as: Sibela Mountain Nature Reserve on the island of Bacan, Obi Island Nature Reserve, Nature Reserve Taliabu Taliabu Island and Island Nature Reserve Seho.


Cultural Nature Reserve area that has a history of archeological value spread in the province of North Maluku which includes the nature preserve culture in the city of Ternate, Tidore, West Halmahera, Central Halmahera, South Halmahera, North and Halmaerah.

Social Culture of North Maluku Province
With the condition of the islands are spread, North Maluku community grow and flourish with all its cultural diversity. Based on the record in North Maluku region there are 28 sub-ethnic with 29 local language.


Pattern of social and cultural life in the province of North Maluku in general is very typical that a marriage between local cultural traits of North Maluku and Islamic culture which embraced four Islamic sultanate in North Maluku pad past.
